A living laboratory of tourism innovation
The Aragonese Pyrenees take another step forward. Together with Turismo de Aragón and the Technological Institute of Aragon (ITA), who lead the initiative, at Imascono we took part in the launch of Spain Living Labs: a project that turns the territory into fourteen living laboratories where Artificial Intelligence, Digital Twins, IoT and Mixed Reality are applied on the ground, in real environments and companies, to transform the tourism experience.
Its strength lies in collaboration. Imascono builds the virtual twin, Libelium deploys the IoT infrastructure and the real-time data platform, and Embou provides the analytical intelligence on visitor behaviour, all coordinated by Turismo de Aragón and ITA. The result adds value to every profile in the territory: personalised experiences for tourists, real-time analytics for public managers and new visibility channels for local businesses. The initiative is co-funded by the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility (NextGenerationEU) and the Government of Aragon, within the RETECH programme.
The virtual twin of the Pyrenees, our contribution
Within this ecosystem, we are building the virtual twin of the Pyrenees: a photorealistic virtualisation of the region where visitors can explore the territory, plan their trip before arriving and access AI-powered historical avatars who recount the legacy of the Pyrenean villages. It's a tool that accompanies the tourism experience at its three key moments: before, during and after the visit.
As Héctor Paz, CEO and co-founder of Imascono, puts it, it is «an attractive, intelligent way of getting to know and working on rural and mountain tourism.
