Continuing medical education faces an obvious limitation: the diagnostic criteria are refined through practice, but practicing with real patients does not allow for trial and error. P&G needed a tool capable of transferring complex clinical knowledge to an environment where the professional could make mistakes without consequences and learn from each decision. The answer was an immersive and gamified virtual space with two simulated clinical cases, guided by an avatar that presents symptoms and prompts decisions. Based on the patient’s pain DETECT questionnaire, the professional goes through the entire diagnostic process autonomously and with immediate feedback.
Train clinical decision-making safely
The continuous training of healthcare professionals encounters a difficult paradox to resolve. The clinical judgment—knowing what to ask, how to interpret a symptom, what procedure to follow—only matures with repeated practice, but no real environment allows a professional to try out diagnostic decisions on real patients without risk. Traditional formats, based on theory and case studies on paper, convey knowledge but do not exercise decision-making. P&G needed a tool capable of turning complex clinical content into a practical, interactive, and rigorous experience, where the professional goes through the entire diagnostic process and learns from each choice in a safe and controlled environment.
