Grupo Lacasa, owner of Lacasitos, has run a factory visit programme for primary school pupils aged 8 to 12 at its Zaragoza and Oviedo plants for years. The initiative has generated growing demand from schools keen to see how the famous chocolate sweets are made, but the geographical limitation leaves most schools in Spain out. To solve this, the group has developed Mundo Lacasitos: a gamified virtual universe any classroom can explore from a computer, discovering the real manufacturing process through mini-games, questions and a journey through six stops.
Taking the factory visit to schools across Spain.
Grupo Lacasa faced a challenge typical of FMCG brands with an educational CSR strategy: how to scale a factory visit programme that sparks enormous interest among schools but which, for geographical and operational capacity reasons, can only serve a very limited share of the demand. The initiative wanted to extend to schools across Spain and, in addition, include children with food intolerances who can't enter the physical factory premises. A digital tool was needed that would reproduce the educational value of the visit and fit naturally into a school lesson.
