A proprietary corporate platform that replaces the external software FLUIX in the document management of Siemens Gamesa's wind farm projects.
Siemens Gamesa's Web Distribution Portal is a corporate document distribution and management platform custom-designed to replace external software. The solution unifies in a single proprietary environment the document operations of the group's wind farm construction and installation projects, covering the four phases of the operational cycle. Siemens Gamesa, a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens Energy, leads global wind turbine manufacturing with more than 130 GW of installed capacity and a global workforce of over 30,000 people.

01 The challenge

Replacing external software in a global industrial operation.

Document management for wind farm construction and installation projects depends on the simultaneous coordination of internal and external teams, at corporate headquarters and in the field, under strict regulatory requirements. Siemens Gamesa was operating with FLUIX, an external software that limited customisation, depended on third-party licences and didn't integrate natively with its technology ecosystem. The challenge was to design a proprietary platform that would completely replace that tool, talk to the group's internal systems —Active Directory, Teamcenter, ShareAspace, SharePoint and SAP— and guarantee operational continuity in environments without an internet connection.

02 The solution

A corporate platform with three connected applications.

The Web Distribution Portal is structured as a proprietary ecosystem with three connected applications. The Admin Panel lets project managers configure projects, roles, groups and workflows. The User Panel gives office technicians task tracking, checklists and documentation. The iPad app extends these functions to field staff with full offline mode, automatic synchronisation and native image and video capture. All operations integrate with Azure Active Directory through Single Sign-On and are governed by granular access control by role, phase and project, guaranteeing end-to-end auditable traceability.

Key learnings

What this case teaches the sector.

01

Control and digital sovereignty

Replacing external software with proprietary platforms lets large industrial operators regain control over their critical flows: native integration with the corporate ecosystem, no recurring licences and the ability to evolve the tool at the pace of the business, not the supplier.

02

Offline-first in field operations

In sectors with plant or outdoor operations —wind farms, energy plants, infrastructure—, offline capability stops being an option and becomes an operational requirement. An application that works without a connection and synchronises automatically is the difference between stopping and continuing the activity.

03

Traceability and regulatory compliance

In regulated industrial environments, granular traceability —every document, every change, every signature, every user— stops being a quality goal and becomes a legal requirement. The automatic audit built into the platform reduces risk and speeds up certification processes.
