Case summary

A Virtual Twin available on touch screen and in Virtual Reality that makes it possible to present Boehringer's in-ovo vaccination machine without moving it physically.

OVO Xtractor is the latest generation of Boehringer Ingelheim's in-ovo vaccination machines, a critical solution for the poultry industry that is installed directly on the production lines of farms and laboratories to immunise birds while still in the egg. To present the equipment at international trade fairs without physically moving it, Boehringer Ingelheim has developed a Virtual Twin available on touch screen and in Virtual Reality that lets you explore every component and every step of the vaccination process with total fidelity, keeping every real machine where it adds value: in active production.

01 The challenge

Showing the precision without moving the physical machine

Boehringer Ingelheim needed a disruptive solution to present its OVO Xtractor model at trade fairs and sales events without physically moving the machine. Transport meant logistics costs and, above all, a high operational opportunity cost: OVO Xtractor machines are in continuous production vaccinating birds on farms and in laboratories. Taking them to a fair means interrupting a critical health process, and every unit set aside for demonstrations is one unit fewer working where it really matters. The challenge was to offer an interactive system capable of conveying the equipment's precision, efficiency and operation, on screen and in Virtual Reality.

02 The solution

A digital twin that sells the machine without moving it.

The solution is the OVO Xtractor Virtual Twin, an interactive experience available simultaneously on touch screen and in Virtual Reality that lets you explore every detail of the equipment realistically and precisely. The platform clearly shows the complete in-ovo vaccination process and the sanitisation system, ensuring full understanding of the machine's benefits and operation. With this project, Boehringer Ingelheim multiplies its product's sales effectiveness: it no longer depends on logistics to reach its customers, it optimises resources and keeps every real unit where it adds value, on farms and in laboratories.

Key learnings

What this case teaches the sector.

01

Showing the asset without interrupting the process

Unlike other industrial virtualisation projects, the OVO Xtractor challenge wasn't only logistical: it was operational. The machines are vaccinating on farms and in laboratories, and moving them means interrupting a critical health process. The Virtual Twin makes it possible to present the equipment without touching the real activity.

02

Multi-format to multiply sales opportunities

Offering the same Virtual Twin in two formats —touch for a quick approach and Virtual Reality for total immersion— multiplies sales opportunities at a fair. And when a complex technical product is understood at first sight in a self-explanatory way, the customer's decision cycle shortens dramatically.

03

The Virtual Twin as a bridge between sales and technical teams

In the healthcare industry, sales teams sell products whose technical complexity often exceeds their own knowledge. A self-explanatory Virtual Twin narrows that gap: the salesperson no longer needs to master every technical detail, because the machine explains by itself how and why it works.

04

Dynamic information management

living content inside a 3D space. The OVO Xtractor Virtual Twin isn't a closed piece that ages over time: the information it shows is updated in real time from a proprietary CMS platform, so every technical feature, model improvement or new sales data point is added to the 3D space without redoing the development.
