Case summary

Fundación Ibercaja's gamified educational platform for teaching 10- and 11-year-olds entrepreneurship and the running of social cooperatives.

Aprendiendo a Emprender is one of Fundación Ibercaja's flagship educational initiatives, with more than ten years teaching 10- and 11-year-olds entrepreneurship and cooperative work. Each school year culminates in a fair of social cooperatives with schools from all over Spain taking part. To update the programme and bring all the theoretical part together in a digital space, the Foundation commissioned a gamified educational platform designed 100% for its protagonists: the children. The solution works as a digital complement to the in-person programme and makes it possible to track the progress of more than four hundred schools.

01 The challenge

Taking entrepreneurship into children's digital world

After a decade teaching generations of children entrepreneurial culture and cooperative work, Fundación Ibercaja wanted to update the Aprendiendo a Emprender programme and bring all its theoretical part together in a single digital space. The challenge had one non-negotiable condition: the result had to be designed 100% for children, sparking their curiosity and making them enjoy learning. The complexity was twofold. On one hand, designing a visual, gamified, self-explanatory experience for 10- and 11-year-old users. On the other, giving the Foundation a system capable of tracking hundreds of schools spread across Spain in detail.

02 The solution

A gamified platform for learning through play

The solution is a gamified educational platform that centralises materials, quizzes, challenges, videos and achievement systems, structured by subject area according to the training plan. Each class accesses its own themed zone and students progress by completing challenges and earning badges, in an experience designed for the world of children. The platform includes a management module that lets Fundación Ibercaja monitor the progress of more than four hundred schools. At the close of each edition, the space turns into a virtual fair that connects students' projects nationwide, extending the programme's reach beyond the classroom.

Key learnings

What this case teaches the sector.

01

An experience with the user at the centre

Designing an educational platform for young users demands attention to every detail of the experience: visual, gamified, challenging and self-explanatory, but also rigorous in content. Turning a training programme into an experience students want to complete is the foundation for any foundation or publisher digitalising its programmes.

02

Technology that amplifies, not replaces

The platform doesn't replace the teacher or the in-person programme: it amplifies them. It centralises materials, organises progress by subject, gamifies the theory and supports both teacher and student in reinforcing content outside the classroom. A hybrid model where digital enhances the existing pedagogy without replacing it.

03

Measurable impact and a national community

In large-scale educational programmes, technology brings two values at once: real impact measurement and community building. The platform tracks each school's progress and, at the close of each edition, turns the space into a virtual fair that connects more than 21,000 students.

04

A living project, established and absorbed into the programme

Aprendiendo a Emprender didn't adopt the digital platform as a one-off action, but as a structural part of the training programme. Today it's one more piece of the school year's journey, fully absorbed by teachers, students and Fundación Ibercaja itself, which uses it year after year to track each school and to build the closing virtual fair.
