Case summary

A co-creation session with Ibercaja employees and executives to identify real opportunities for AI and immersive technologies at the bank.

Ibercaja's Innovation Lab ran a co-creation session with a group of employees from different departments and executive profiles to explore how immersive technologies —VR, AR, XR— together with Artificial Intelligence can generate real value at the bank. The goal was ideation: for people with business vision and knowledge of their areas to co-create concrete, viable, impactful use cases. The session, lasting 2 hours with 18 participants split into 4 groups, laid the foundations for future technology transformation projects at the institution.

01 The challenge

Moving from theory to concrete cases

Ibercaja, as part of its technology transformation strategy, identified the need to go beyond the traditional approach to innovation: to move from theory about AI and immersive technologies to concrete use cases, validated from within and with measurable business impact. The challenge was to activate the bank's own collective intelligence, gathering the perspective of people with knowledge of their areas and business vision, to co-create solutions grounded in real problems rather than abstract hypotheses. Once generated, the best ideas with real potential would be worked on in depth for possible later development.

02 The solution

A co-creation session with our own methodology

The solution was a two-hour co-creation session with 18 participants from different departments and executive profiles, built around a methodology of our own that combines prior diagnosis and collective dynamics. The preparatory phase included a survey of participants to identify the most relevant operational and customer-experience pain points (eleven in total, split between internal experience and customer experience). In the session, initial training on AI, VR, AR and XR levelled the groups' knowledge before the ideation exercise.

Key learnings

What this case teaches the sector.

01

AI and XR advance at different speeds and demand different strategies

AI is already present in real workflows for most professionals, while XR remains mostly a leisure technology. Both will coexist in the bank's solutions, but they require differentiated adoption strategies: one optimises what exists; the other opens new formats of relationship.

02

Every idea, a pre-proposal ready to filter and develop

The output of the session wasn't a list of loose ideas, but a complete opportunities report in which each proposal arrives structured with technology, problem and impact. That discipline turns the workshop's output into a directly actionable base: decision-makers can prioritise, discard and start developing without a second round of interpretation.

03

From theory about AI to concrete, grounded use cases

Many organisations have been talking about AI and immersive technologies for a long time without managing to turn that conversation into real projects. The Ibercaja case shows that the step from «we want to do things with AI» to «we have 100 viable proposals on the table» isn't solved with a keynote, but with a methodology that forces each idea to define an assigned technology, an identified problem and an estimated impact.

04

Co-creation as a structural foundation

The Ibercaja session wasn't conceived as a workshop with a life of its own, but as the base on which to build future real technology transformation projects at the institution. The more than one hundred proposals generated, the eleven pain points identified and the complete opportunities report remain a strategic asset the Innovation Lab can activate over time according to business priorities.
