The Setas de Sevilla, located in the historic Plaza de la Encarnación, are one of the city's modern symbols and the largest wooden structure in the world, designed by German architect Jürgen Mayer H. The visit includes unique walkways and viewpoints that give visitors a new perspective of Seville, complemented by a museum experience on the history and transformation of the space. To enrich this experience with historical context and visual storytelling, Audioguiarte and the Setas' museum team added an interactive virtual twin that recreates the infrastructure and its 10,000 square metres in detail from an aerial perspective impossible on the in-person visit.

01 The challenge

Adding context to the largest wooden structure in the world.

The Setas de Sevilla are a contemporary architectural monument of enormous visual and tourist value, but also a complex space to explain: their fluid geometry, their 10,000 square metres and their location above a transformed historic market make it hard to grasp their full scale from the in-person visit itself. The museum team wanted to enrich the visitor experience with historical context —the before and after of the Plaza de la Encarnación—, architectural storytelling and an overall perspective that the walk along the walkways doesn't allow. The challenge was twofold: to add complementary content and to increase interaction with the totems along the physical route.

02 The solution

A virtual twin from a bird's-eye view.

The solution is a spectacular digital, aerial-view reconstruction of the whole Setas de Sevilla infrastructure. The virtual twin lets visitors explore the largest wooden structure in the world from a perspective impossible on the in-person visit, activate interactive points with historical information, see the square's before and after, and access videos and 360 photographs of other tourist spots in the city. The twin is available on the totems along the physical route and also on web, tablets and mobiles, becoming the perfect complement for enjoying the museum experience at any point of the visit.
